Motives and Reservations Regarding Self-Employment (MOTIVES)
- Objectives and Description
When one considers the founding of particularly innovative businesses,
it is students who make up an interesting group of potential founders.
An empirical analysis, examining which motives in the eyes of students
speak for and which reservations speak against the decision to be self-employed,
was carried out in a series of surveys conducted at the University of
Dortmund, at the EUROPEAN BUSINESS SCHOOL and at other institutions
of higher education.
For purposes of comparison, other groupings of interviewees were questioned
and their answers studied. A total of over 4,000 people were interviewed,
all coming from diverse countries including the People’s Republic of
China and Hong Kong.
Method: Questionnaire with Likert scales, standardised surveys, Internet
surveys.
