General conditions for start-up companies - A comparative anaysis examining the USA, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and Germany (KLIMA) in cooperation with St. Gallen

There is a great deal of debate about the climate for new enterprises in Germany, without direct comparisons being drawn to other countries. But the latter is needed for a proper assessment. The subject of this study is an investigation of the environment that entrepreneurs encounter in the above-named countries. An international comparison is made of the available assistance for new businesses in the respective countries, the support programmes offered, and the systems of education for new entrepreneurs. General geographically-based background conditions (the entrepreneurial landscape, the macrosocial environment and the general business situation) are also compared.
A variety of surveys were conducted in the respective countries. In addition to personal inverviews with experts on entrepreneurship and written surveys of students, systematic analyses of the content of books and TV series were also performed.
